  • Welcome to September's New Year 12

My name is Miss Clancy and I am the Head of Year for sixth form.  I have worked at St Bernard’s since 2011 and have supported various year groups as Head of Year alongside teaching Mathematics.  My role is to support students in sixth form to achieve their best by listening to you and liaising with your teachers as well as the Senior Leadership Team to create an environment that provides you with the best opportunities to prepare you for the future.  I can also arrange specific support in school such as career advice, a meeting with a Learning Coach/Mentor or meetings with our school counsellor where appropriate.

I would like to take this opportunity to share the information below with you in preparation for sixth form at St Bernard’s and I am looking forward to seeing you all in September.

Should you wish to complete some work to prepare for the subjects you would like to take at A level, you can request this by emailing me sixthformenquiries@stbernards.southend.sch.uk with the list of subjects you would like the transition work for.  Internal students can access this transition work themselves via the sixth form site on our VLE (including A level Politics which we are now able to offer for September)!

I would also like to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about joining St Bernard’s sixth form.  Please email any questions to sixthformenquiries@stbernards.southend.sch.uk by Friday 10th July and we will add the answers to your questions to this area of our website by Wednesday 15th July!

A level Mathematics students please note you will need to purchase the Casio Classwiz FX991-EX calculator.  This does not apply to students looking to study Core Mathematics.

My name is Mr Waughman and I have been a Maths teacher at St Bernard's for over 10 years.  I have been a form tutor to all year groups and have most recently been a sixth form tutor.  This has been a rewarding experience to help support students with their studies and career opportunities.  I enjoy being part of the St Bernard's community and have been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities such rag charities events, Fit 4 Fun Cycle and Southend Marine Activity Days.  I look forward to meeting you all next term.

My name is Mr Clarkson and I am a Year 12 form tutor. I have worked at St Bernard’s since 2019 as part of the Science department teaching Chemistry.  As a form tutor my role is to ensure that you are listened to and that you get any support you might need.  I will be there to help you to adjust to life as a sixth former.  I look forward to meeting you all in September.

My name is Mrs Stanborough and I am Head of Technology at St Bernard's. I teach Textiles, Graphics and Food so if you would like any advice on these subjects please feel free to seek me out.  I am delighted to be a tutor for year 12 and hope that my knowledge in teaching creative subjects across schools and colleges in Essex since 2001, will be of benefit to you.  More recently I have gained experience of working with students making career choices and preparing to go to university.  I have enjoyed guiding students on their next steps, on writing CV's and course choices, as well as giving advice on completing their UCAS applications. I also have expertise with assisting students prepare portfolios of work for interview and am happy to offer support on this.  I look forward to meeting you and working with you in the next stage of your education at St Bernard's.

My name is Mrs Brook and I am the Learning Coach in school.  I have been at St Bernard's since 2010 and I work predominantly with GCSE and A Level students.  My role in school is to provide strategies and support with organisation and study skills to help create confident and independent learners.  I work with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups and as part of the pastoral team I work closely with Heads of Year and teachers to help support the students I work with more effectively.  I also help students with motivation, their general well-being and many other issues they may have.  I look forward to meeting you all and working with you.

Hello!  My name is Mrs Davies.  I am St. Bernard’s Careers Co-ordinator and responsible for Careers Education and Guidance throughout the school.  I co-ordinate the Careers provision within the school, I provide careers information, advice and guidance to students, and co-ordinate Work Experience.  Students are able to see me throughout the school day.  Most students have an individual careers interview especially those in years 9-13.  The careers interview can cover anything and students can see me as often as they like until they feel happy about their academic [GCSE and A Level subjects], study [Further and Higher Education] and career and employment choices.  My office is in the Dining Hall Extension at the top of the stairs.  I look forward to meeting and working with you.

‘It was only with the support of the senior leadership team and my fellow students that I even considered applying to Oxford, and I genuinely don’t believe I would have achieved as much as I have done if it wasn’t for their help, encouragement and confidence in me.’
