Head Student Team
Liza Mathew
Head Student 2022-23
I am proud to be the Head student here. I have been a student at St. Bernard’s since Year 7 and the best years of my life have been spent in this school. I have always had a very positive and bright experience and coming to this school: I’ve made amazing friends, developed myself as a person and made such fond memories!
Here, at the Sixth Form, St. Bernard’s offers many opportunities to further yourself as a person and as a student with a wide range of extracurriculars, like Debate clubs and Medical Society as well as many social, sporting, artistic, and leadership enrichment activities. These opportunities provide opportunities for the Sixth form students to develop lifelong transferable skills as well as excel in their academic studies.
In addition to this, the Catholic Ethos of the school has supported my spiritual and emotional growth.
The St. Bernard's community is inclusive and caring. Staff and students will always be here to help you in times of challenge. The teachers really have every student at the core of all that they do. Knowing that whatever decision or step I took that I would find the support here was one of the main reasons I chose to stay at 16.
Benita Basil
Deputy Head Student 2022-23
The key value in St Bernard’s Sixth form is to love one another as God has loved us and to work hard to achieve your potential.
Our skilled and friendly teachers, create an atmosphere of diligence and positivity in our classes, and I am proud of the effective relationships I have created with my peers and staff. We all want to succeed and support one another.
Having been at St Bernard’s from year 7, I have witnessed myself grow in maturity and ambition. I have proudly been able to undertake the role of Deputy Head Student. A-level study is demanding and it is most important to have staff to have a listening ear for you. That is why St Bernard’s High School excels above all.
Melissa Sibanda
Deputy Head Student 2022-2023
St Bernard’s is a breeding ground for success. Being a student here has given me many opportunities to grow in leadership and confidence, obtaining skills that will not only benefit me now, but also later on in life.
You have the chance to be a part of a loving community that believes in upholding God’s most sacred commandments and putting prayer at the forefront of everything we do. Staff work meticulously to ensure that we achieve our best; keeping track of our progress and helping us when we fall short. Over the course of the years, I’ve had the opportunity to form unlikely life long friendships due to the diversity of culture within our school.
I feel privileged to take on the role of deputy head student to ensure the student voice is heard. There truly is a place for everyone here at St Bernard’s.
Our names our Liza, Benita and Melissa and we are proud to be the Head student Team at St. Bernard’s. All three of us, having been a student here at St. Bernard’s since Year 7, can proudly say that St. Bernard has really set us up with skills that have well-equipped us for the future, and we have enjoyed every bit of our time here!
At St. Bernard's we have a great community of staff and students who will always be here to help your child if they face any struggles as students are always the main priority of staff here at St. Bernard’s. All teachers including our fantastic head teacher, Mrs. Moise Dixon, and our wonderful head of years and support and learning mentors, careers advisors and subject teachers have all students at the heart of everything they do. In everything you do here at St. Bernard’s, you can acknowledge that there is always someone here to help you.
St. Bernard’s offers many opportunities to further yourself as a person and as a student with a wide range of extracurriculars, like debate clubs, drama groups and the school’s new journalism team as well as many other social, sporting, artistic, and leadership enrichment activities. These opportunities allow students to develop lifelong transferable skills as well as excel in their academics.
Furthermore, at St. Bernard’s, our Catholic ethos and faith is incredibly important to us and coming to a Catholic Sixth form enables students to not only grow as academically but also on a spiritual and emotional scale. We promote self-discipline through clarity of moral vision that is based on the Gospel. Students learn that God is present and active in their lives and in the world. As you can see, we are incredibly strong in our faith however this does not mean we are all the same! St. Bernard’s is possibly one of the most diverse school communities in our area. The school’s student body is of people of different, race, religion and different ethnicities and this is one of the biggest qualities of our school.
As St. Bernard’s Head student team, we hope to provide support, advice and most importantly a listening ear to those who need it. We hope to be a voice for all students of St. Bernard’s and help them enjoy and get most of their secondary education.
